With Bart's latest email, I figured now is as good a time as any to get this board active again.
A real shame about the chases this year. Hopefully something gets worked out...
In conclusion, I blame Billy.... oh wait....
I also thought it would be a good time to update everyone...
I have changed jobs, sort of, I have moved from the Network Control Facility for AWIPS over to testing. I now test most of the RFC applications under AWIPS and enjoy it quite a bit. I was glad to get Valpo's name out around these parts and with the addition of Sam Bowerman and Josh Buchs, Valpo is now the 3rd most represented school on this contract (still far behind Penn St. and Millersville though).
I am also getting married this July. It has been pretty crazy with a new job and all the planning with that, but it keeps me busy!
Hope everyone else is doing well, it would be good to hear from everyone and get this board active again!

Did anyone hear what happened to me on last year's chase? I was really scared that he had cancelled because of liability. I was relieved to find out it was just Valpo's insane administration.

Definitely a good time to get the board rolling again.
It's a shame that the chases have to come to an end as a class. I know they were a big draw. I learned a great deal in the 3 summer chases I went on, and wouldn't replace the forecast and nowcast knowledge I got from them. But, there will be opportunities, and I hope everyone continues to seek out ways to get some operational knowledge in while in school. 150 people in the MET program.... WOW!
For me, I continue to roll along here in Kansas City. My Kansas City Weather Podcast now has more episodes to it than all but a handful of other podcasts. The show was the recipient of the Podcast Peer Award for best regional-themed podcast last year, and is a nominee for the best public service podcast right now.
Professionally, I'm doing IT work for a small company run by a few friends. It's 2 miles from home, so I have the opportunity to walk to work occasionally. The family is doing great. We just enrolled our oldest, Jacob, into kindergarten last week Our daughter Kaylee is your typical cute, stubborn, princess, terror / 2 year old. Becca is prepping to take the CPA test after dismissing the thought for the last 9 years. So, all in all... things are good.
Now it's time to figure out what this strong shortwave is going to do for us in Kansas City. No suprise SPC has but out a MOD for W OK tomorrow. Saturday is going to be interesting across E TX, OK, AR, and the lower MS river valley. We'll probably get dry-slotted. Welcome to spring everyone!

I am also sad that the summer chases have come on an end for now, but that will only increase the value of my chase 4 and 5 tshirts. Perhaps we can get VACUUM (Valparaiso Alumni Converging Under Updrafts and Mesocyclones) together again at some point. If anyone is up in Wisconsin chasing this summer and needs a place to crash, we have plenty of room at our house, as long as you don't mind our dog Guinness...
Professionally, I am working as a data analyst for a mortgage technology company in Milwaukee and serving as the official company meteorologist.
I'm a little bitter towards Ed right now with his welcome to spring comment, as we are probably looking at blizzard conditions saturday night into sunday, guess I'll hold off on taking the golf clubs out of storage.

I was also sad to see that the chases had to be cancelled. I know the two that I went on were a big part of my Valpo education. As for me, I am finishing up my Masters at SUNY Albany working with Dr. Lance Bosart. It took the extra third year due to having to TA while doing research, but the TA experience has been great. Starting next year when I work on my PhD, I will be done TAing so I will be able to concentrate on just doing research. Other than that, I love living in Albany, it is a great area with a lot of stuff to do. If anyone is ever in the area just let me know! Did anyone hear what happened to me on last year's chase? I was really scared that he had cancelled because of liability. I was relieved to find out it was just Valpo's insane administration. What happened to you on last years chase Ang???

Just wait until July and August when it's 95/75 here and you're sitting in the 70s. haha In any case... was there an incident that prompted the administration to take a second look at the whole "students driving" thing?

What happened to you on last years chase Ang??? Woops, I should come here more often. I wrecked my car twice. The first time was my fault. I didnt see the gas station pole behind me and I idled into it (thank god I wasnt stepping on the accelerator). Two days later I got hit by an oncoming car in Morgan Co, Colorado. Some kid in a truck that Bart was convinced had been drinking. He and his buddy were coming back from a fishing trip and he said he was "distracted by the clouds" and sideswiped me down the drivers side. All the panels had to be replaced. Anyways. It was an interesting trip.
